AI for Project Management, E-Commerce and Healthcare

Written by:

AI is creating ripples in the world right now. There is almost no industry that has been left out of the AI revolution. Today, we take a look at three industries and how they have been impacted by AI.

E-Commerce

The e-commerce industry is quite the automated one. While the use of computer comprehension is evident in consumer e-commerce issues, AI has also contributed to many preparation and implementation processes as part of the industry. For example, consider Amazon’s drone delivery and stand-alone driving systems – this is only possible because of the great power of AI.

In fact, automatic fraud detection is also used in e-commerce, where payment details are linked to an account and further monitored by suspicious activity. Additionally, there are various ways in which AI has transformed e-commerce. This includes the use of automated customer interviews that are able to process and answer a variety of consumer questions.

Finally, AI is also used to identify new customers and dynamic media management systems. AI is now right at the centre of marketing, allowing marketers to make the most of big data. It is safe to say that AI is full of many aspects of e-commerce including; improving asset management, targeting new markets, and providing efficient customer service.

Project management

This is especially true in the case of project management, where information computing has changed everything from risk assessment to employee support, allowing employers to make more informed decisions when it comes to protecting themselves and their employees in many ways, including security and debt coverage. By assessing risk at all levels, business owners are able to make informed decisions about many different aspects across the board, even outside of financial ones.

Currently, there are many types of AI technologies that impact businesses in project management. One of them is knowledgeable AI that understands the context of data and resources in decision-making. This is especially helpful in reducing risk and reducing business losses as a result of using data-based data.

Second, because AI is quick to process past data, it is able to provide real-time data allocation and management information. Project managers are thus able to allocate staff more efficiently based on proven data, and ensure that resources are not wasted.

Health care

Healthcare is one of the areas that will continue to benefit the most as a result of the influence of AI. From being able to assist doctors during surgery to accurately diagnose health care conditions, AI has already made a significant impact in the medical field.

Consider, for instance, the example set by George Washington University: Thanks to computer-assisted computer and intelligent technology, 3D printers can “print” life-saving materials such as organs, tissues, and more. In fact, in 2016, S Spiritam produced the first 3D-printed pill to treat epilepsy. AI-enabled 3D printers are also capable of producing advanced medical images. This representation, which contains liquids and plastics, gives doctors a deeper look at the functioning of the human body and allows for better diagnosis and research.

Using AI and the Internet of Things; Microsoft and Gojo were able to design a project to measure how often hospital staff wash their hands. The project used roof sensors and handwashing machines to track how often employees used them. Unfortunately, the project found that only 16.5% of employees comply with the required handwashing procedures. Progress like this helps to monitor the performance of specialists and later improves hospital hygiene, reducing the spread of the disease due to unclean habits.

It is impossible to overemphasize the importance of AI in different industrial fields. Healthcare, e-commerce and project management are just a few places this impact has been felt.

This is because, according to them, it is hard to keep the privacy of the information about what happens day and night at their remote houses. Although the smart systems can provide comprehensive aspects of most house devices, they worry that the companies that provide the integrated gadgets can access that data and share it with unauthorized people which can infringe their right to privacy. Therefore, the homeowners have argued that technology companies should design devices that assure their privacy and ability to control the information in their houses.

Compatibility

Lack of compatibility has been a challenge and especially to the people who do not know about artificial intelligence and technology. Sometimes people buy a lot of smart gadgets with the hope they assist them to manage their home but during installation, the engineers or technician discover some of them cannot work together. For example, some people say that with smart devices such as security cameras, thermostats, and sensors, some fail to be automatically integrated with ones that are made from different brands. Even if most of them can be connected with smartphones, some apps cannot be joined with others form a different brand which means a person has to log in to different apps to check and regulate what is happening in his/her home. Smart technology customers are looking for a single app that can help in controlling several tasks in a smart home. For example, the Alexa app does not accept instructions that are sent from the Nest. As a result, this forces a property owner to hassle for various apps.

Security

With smart bulbs that are interconnected with technology, they can know when the owner is at a certain location, his daily behaviors, and habits. In a case when an individual spy this specific homeowner by either hacking through hacking systems or stealing data, then the security of the property owner and his property could be in danger which could lead to extensive damages. This all will be resulted by the network leaking information about the presence of a person at home, when he delivers, and when he arrives. So, before investing in home smart security systems, it is vital to understand the safety of the security systems from experts to avoid exposing the home and your life to devastating threats. Moreover, there are some instances when sensors and artificial intelligence cameras have malfunctioned by detecting and providing wrong results. Energy-saving strategies for smart homes

Written by:

The advent of new technologies has continued to improve the ope-rationalization of smart homes. From home security to energy consumption’s, technology is revolutionizing our lives by making smart homes more safe, efficient, and enjoyable places to live. The following are some tips that are helping homeowners save energy and reduce costs.

Sensor-Controlled Lights

Sensors manipulated lights are being used at smart homes to regulate the temperature in rooms. A study by the Carbon Trust in the United Kingdom revealed that most occupancy sensors can reduce energy costs by 30 percent. This is because they are utilized in turning the lights on and off since they detect the time when the homeowners are in the house and away. Through automatic timers, they are programmed to turn on and off the lights after sunset when people are asleep.

The other rooms like washrooms use motion sensors where they automatically turn the lights off when people are not taking showers or the occupants have spent a certain period without using the rooms.

Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs

Adopting the use of energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and LED bulbs can save more energy bills more than many people can imagine. These type bulbs are very efficient as CFLs use mercury to create a phosphor coating within the bulb fluoresce, thus generating adequate light whilst LED bulbs normally use light-producing diodes as the source of the light. According to the Home Energy Saver, CFLs conserve up to 75 percent and they also last longer as compared to the other types of bulbs.

Since CFLs use Mercury and other toxic substances, their disposal should be done separately with other waste materials to protect the environment as well.

Smart Thermostats

The smart thermostats are connected with most devices including phones, tablets, and enable homeowners to monitor the general consumption of energy by all the devices. Besides, they help in setting the home temperatures when they are away from home. Energy experts noted that most homeowners are finding thermostats useful because they combine clear reports from each particular appliance and present charts for data interpretation. As a result, people can understand which devices are consuming more energy and replace them with more energy-saving ones. In other words, these stores data, learning the daily habits of smart home energy consumption, and helping in making better energy-saving decisions. With this data, a person can set lower temperatures when the room is unoccupied thus saving utility bills.

Smart Power Strips

Some appliances start to consume power immediately when they are plugged in even if they are not switched on. They might include TV cables, laptop chargers, and other stand electronic gadgets. For laymen, this can get them off guard, as they tend to complain about excess electricity bills every month. The ideal solution to reduce this “energy vampires” is to buy a smart power strip that will automatically detect any inactively connected device and cut off the power. There are various types of smart power strips but the most common is the one which allows the plugged-in appliances to function normally without charging ports that don’t draw phantom power when the appliances are off and the other has charging ports for the devices that require it to be kept on. Energy savings can be possible if the homeowners utilize the use of modern gadgets that come with sensors and other technologies to ensure that when the houses are unoccupied, the lights are and power ports are switched off. Similarly, the use of smart appliances that are integrated with IoT can help most people to monitor the power consumption of each device and provide the insights that guide in making the right adjustments aimed toward making the home smarter.

How artificial intelligence improves waste sorting in the construction

Written by:

Artificial intelligence has started changing how waste sorting and garbage collection is being processed in construction sites. By the use of automatic sensors, robots can collect remains of aluminum, timber and other waste products in construction surroundings. Consequently, this new technology has prompted the effective recycling of garbage in waste management and recycling plants.

When contractors complete building skyscrapers and other structures, they leave a burden of collecting rubbish to the developer and also dealing with the generated waste every day.

A better way of gathering the waste and dumping it is by use of artificial intelligence. This has been demonstrated by companies such as Tomra Sorting Recycling and Machinex that use machine Learning devices and software to sort wastes. For example, automated water sorters use artificial intelligence techniques and computer vision robots to pick and recycle dirty water. However, when this technology was being adopted in 2012, it could not sort everything but it required the assistance of some staff in some stages of sorting. But this technology has been advanced where it can sort all the water-related waste and recycles. More so, the technology has got a high rate of purity where it separates the used water with other materials and recycles it for other uses.

Moreover, another technology is by use of radio frequency identification to select rubbish in construction sites and dispose of the dustbins that are attached to different tags. An automatic driven waste scans all the tags saves the data in a central server and ensures the waste is placed in the right bin. This automated system is effective and also saves time. Additionally, it only utilizes previous data records stored in the server and recommends the ideal thing to with it.

According to Mr. Brook Ney who is an expert in waste management, the innovation of waste sorting technologies has upgraded waste management all over the world. He adds that artificial intelligence technology has enabled the collection of large quantities of waste and better recycling since it is a mechanized process. Nevertheless, he warns that artificial intelligence technology must first be proved to ensure its sustainability before every industry begins to implement it. Other experts admit that by 2022, most waste materials will no longer be dampened to the soil but municipalities and other administrations will have to embrace new technologies to make their cities clean.

Besides, there is the use of Intelligent trash cans that are made with the internet of things detectors that also contain servers to identify waste and categorize it according to the type of waste and the specific disposal methodology. The computerized systems are replacing slow traditional sorting methods. Not only are they applied in the construction sector but also in other industries where the quantity of waste is enormous such as manufacturing. Global records show that over 65 percent of waste is currently recycled with the help of artificial intelligence technologies. The remaining 35 percent is trashed to the environment that harms the environment like the sea and air. Some artificial intelligence technologies can sort 160 pieces of waste per minute which at least 30 people will accomplish at the same time. Artificial intelligence continues to refine waste management in construction firms by leveraging computer vision.

Regardless of the quantity and type the waste is sorted immediately and directed to the right place for recycling. Furthermore, such systems are also being applied in damping sites where they are multitasking to sort immense quantities of waste and enhance smart recycling. Lastly, with this smarter artificial intelligence sorting technology, the world can reduce pollution that is brought by dumping wastes anyhow.

Benefits of parametric design in architecture

Written by:

Parametric design is a technique in architecture that involves the use of algorithms to generate parameters and rules that can be manipulated to create the desired relationship in the design of structures and geometric. It employs the use of computational design systems to make the desired results in architecture.

With the advancement in technology, the parametric design has become a game-changer in the establishment of structural building. But why are most architects embracing this technology?

It is a flexible designing tool when constructing new buildings and reconstructing old structures without altering the original functionality. This technology has been used to easily modify the dimensions of shapes and sizes of different walls in the housing sector. For instance, it is applied in modeling the elements of a glass window and its shapes automatically by changing the variable sets. The virtual construction of St. Catherine Church in the city of Nuremberg, Germany is a perfect example where a 3-dimensional model was used by combining data to generate a parametric model. The church had been bombed but architects exploited parametric technology and formed a beautiful interior and exterior of the church through decoration.

Today visitors get a vivid experience when they visit st. Catherine Church because the renovation was made possible by the parametric design. Other designs in the world where this technology has been applied are in Metropol Parasol in Seville, the Canton Tower in Guangzhou, China among other buildings in Spain. The advocates of parametric models’ attribute flexibility and making aesthetics in structures such as stadiums, museums and bridges. Although it is based on the cloud it provides a clear view of the intended structure in simple steps to enable the stakeholders to visualize the appearance of the final product.

When the design is complete, it allows the viewership of every wall, corner, glass dimensions without a struggle. Where they require some changes, they are implemented early and reduce delays and losses that could incur as a result of deviations on the final model.

The goal is to ensure the structure is made according to the aspirations of the property owners. Since the project is stored on the cloud, it becomes easy for the team to check and provide feedback for adjustments where necessary. Subsequently, the parametric design improves efficiency while saving time. Since it is embedded with artificial intelligence and saved as data, architects and engineers share information and make the desired modifications. This implies that an old design process can be reused in future developments related to structure, reconstruction and renovations. It is equally crucial to store digital data properly to enable reference by future generations. Additionally, this computer-aided design supports linear workflow in which everything is done a step by step as the design reshapes into the right form. However, the design can be further edited until everything becomes precise. What is more, is the fact that the parametric model permits teamwork where the project is complex.

The different sections of projects are assigned to different groups who work on their part while sending data to the central place for evaluation. The team is coordinated by the project managers who ascertain every lot performs as per set standards. Therefore, it improves the speed at which the project will be completed. The use of a parametric approach has become a defining moment for architects in the construction industry. In the case of St. Catherine Church in Nuremberg, this computational design proved to be effective in quickly reconstructing the structure. In other modern designs of buildings, it is also being used to spot and make intended adjustments thus ensuring the final results of a structure are accurate.
