Artificial intelligence and the future of smart homes

In recent years, artificial intelligence has been playing a key role in creating smart homes. Through connected devices in a central hub, smart homes have become more useful as security is guaranteed, there is energy efficiency and monitoring of pets, children and elder people. According to artificial intelligence experts, the use of the internet of things is expected to rise.

Today, there are over 4,000 new smart home devices that are integrated with artificial intelligence hence making it easier to control home using the internet when the owner is away. For example thermostats, home entertainment systems, door locks and other video surveillance systems. Another application is by controlling house temperatures and lightning by switching appliances on and off when needed.

According to a study conducted by Cisco, the connected home gadgets and tracking systems are expected to rise exponentially by 2021. This self-monitoring and analysis technology is controlled by the use of either laptops, tablets and smartphones.

In smart home technology, the applications are classified in the following categories; lighting, security, bathroom and kitchen and boasting comfort.

When the homeowners are away, they can detect the entry of thieves or unwanted persons in their homes and take the necessary action. Technology experts have argued that the smart homes of the future will have advanced Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning(HVAC) and lighting systems that detect the appropriate temperatures and set it automatically. The AI-enabled system will sense the moment of the day, the whereabouts of a person and provide a suitable light.

There is also a prediction that most automation will adopt voice control systems in controlling devices. Artificial intelligence is adapting swiftly where devices are becoming smarter in that instead of touching voices can be utilized to inform the devices to turn on and off. Imagine using the voice to tell the shades to open or shower to start running!

The automatic water in bathroom showers will help to save resources. Also, having smart toilets would assist in gathering waste products on time as well as helping to check infections and other related diseases such as cholera and cancer hence improving telemedicine.

Moreover, other assistive personal devices are being produced to check the body organs including heart rate and body temperatures and glucose levels when an individual is at home. Most of these health assistants would be connected to implants.

Furthermore, smart homes will be able to harness computing power and help in energy conservation. For example, shutting windows when there is an excess sun at home to maintain comfort.

Also, virtual entertainment is here and is shaping television screens where people can view exhibitions, museums through 3D images and videos at the comfort of their rooms through an automatic virtual environment.

Besides there devices that are being manufactured to provide better emotional health for people when they are at home. This technology will be a solution to the people who suffer from emotional stress by detecting the appearance of facial expressions, speech inconsistencies, voice tones and recommend immediate check-up in hospitals.

Another evident trend is the rise of devices that charge without the need of being connected with wires. Technology innovators are researching to produce improved renewable power sources for homes such as solar and wind.

Artificial intelligence has fostered the creation of smart homes through integrated devices in central points that can be controlled remotely. As a result, it has enhanced the comfort-ability of the old and improved security. Hence, controlling home though artificial intelligence is more effective than the manual way of performing tasks at home. Moving to the future, innovations of artificial intelligence are expected to transform many laboring operations at home.
